Frequently Asked Questions

What you need to know about Bedrock Playschool Society

Fees

Our school fees are $75/month/child for two class days per week for the 2026-2027 school year.
Grant

Every child registered in our program is awarded up to a $100 Alberta Affordability Grant. Therefore, the published fees displayed above have already taken into account the $100 Alberta Affordability Grant per month.
Since this is a government program that renews annually in March we cannot guarantee funds will be available for the entire school year.
If unavailable, fees will increase by $100 per month per child. Parents will be given notice if there will be a change to the fees as soon as the grant renewal happens.
Subsidy

This program no longer exists in Alberta so we do not offer any subsidies beyond the Alberta Affordability Grant described above.

Parent Helpers

We have a parent volunteer in every class to help keep the class running smoothly. Each enrolled student needs to have one responsible adult volunteer in their class four times per year (two times each semester). It can be anyone! Parent, friend, grandparent, aunties/uncles, neighbour, etc.. This is the child’s opportunity to be the “special helper” and they look forward to it every time.
Parent helpers need to have a valid criminal record check on file at the playschool.
If we do not have a parent helper the class will be cancelled. It is an important job!
Your teacher will send out a Sign-up Genius link before school starts. You can pick your volunteer class times and sign up online. If you are signed up for a day but cannot make it, it is your responsibility to find someone to come in as the parent helper. Please use the class chat on the Remind App to find another parent if nobody from your community can do it.
Check in with the teacher when you get there and ask them how you can help. There is also a “task list” for parent helpers in the classroom to give you ideas. You can expect to play with kids, tidy up after craft & snack time, sweep the floors, help put outdoor clothes on at the end of class, etc.
Most of the time families are able to find parent helpers, but sometimes, for many reasons, it does not happen. This creates many issues for the class.
A $250 volunteer cheque dated for Jan 1 2026 must be provided to the playschool for each registered child at the start of the year. If you are unable to find someone to volunteer for the required number of classes this cheque will be cashed and used to hire a teaching assistant. This cheque WILL NOT be cashed if parent helper requirements are met.
If you know ahead of time that you will not be able to cover the required volunteer days, please inform the teacher as soon as possible so that we can hire a teaching assistant for your days. Those days will be your child’s “special helper” days so they get to experience the fun of their special day.
General

Please contact the playschool to discuss your needs and we will determine on a case-by-case basis if this is possible. We are anticipating classes will operate at capacity this year so holding a spot will likely require payment in full of tuition until the child is able to attend.
Yes you can, as long as the child is 3 by Dec 31 they can register.
For licensing reasons children cannot attend class without a parent until they are 3. Families will need to either wait until the child’s birthday to send them to playschool or have an adult accompany them to class until their birthday.
Please discuss this with the playschool prior to the school year.
